Coenzyme Q10 is a natural substance found virtually everywhere in the human body (and particularly concentrated, in the heart). It appears to play a crucial molecular role in the production of energy -- as an essential catalyst in the enzymatic chain that results in the energy which keeps us alive. Without enough CoQ10 in the body, the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which conveys energy from one cellular location to another) is disrupted. When present in the body with sufficient oxygen, it works as a powerful antioxidant --quenching free radicals (harmful molecules that attack cellular structures). Free radicals have been blamed for worsening conditions like cancer and heart disease.
